A small provincial town, Lucca is a gem. It is surrounded by the Medici walls, which have retained the town’s charm.
Our tour begins exactly from those walls. A splendid walk will lead you to the three faces of Lucca: the Roman, the medieval and the Napoleonic. The Roman one is highlighted by Lucca’s amphitheater, now turned into a beautiful square with its old roads still recognizable. The medieval one shows its proud and tall towers, which allowed the city to compete with Florence to lead Tuscany. The Napoleonic came to be when the emperor chose the city to become the seat of the Kingdom of Etruria, and gave it to his sister Elisa to govern.
Our tour will give you the opportunity to see valuable and unique examples of medieval art as well one of the most beautiful and elegant statues of the Renaissance, the Ilaria del Carretto.
We are sure you will be enchanted.
The tour is two hours, and includes visits to the Duomo of Lucca, San Frediano, San Michele, Piazza Anfiteatro, the Via Fillungo and Piazza Napoleone.
