New Year’s Eve in Florence 2023-2024

Best to to: Events, Parties, and Celebrations

For many years now, it’s easy to find something great to do to celebrate New Year’s Eve in Florence. This year, the city has adorned itself for the Christmas Holidays with many Christmas trees, some super colorful, others icy white in contrast to the historic buildings or the hill of San Miniato, all in preparation for the big New Year’s Eve celebration.
Even the weather should help: temperatures won’t be too cold, around 9/10°C, and there’s likely no rain expected. So, I would say everything is perfect to discover what you can do for New Year’s Eve in Florence.
The Municipality of Florence, in a bid to engage the entire city in the revelries, will transform its six prominent squares into lively celebration venues. Each square promises a unique experience, mirroring the cultural diversity of the different areas of the centre of Florence.
I bet that you’ll find for sure something you like and that you will remember.
Alongside the iconic Piazza della Signoria, festivities will unfold in Piazza Santissima Annunziata, in Piazza San Giovanni, in Piazza Santa Croce, in Piazza del Carmine and in Piazza Santo Spirito and Oltrarno.

  • Piazza Santissima Annunziata – ‘Jazz New Year’ in Piazza Santissima Annunziata. There will be two absolute protagonists of Tuscan and national jazz: Nico Gori and Gianluca Petrella. They will take jazz lovers on a long journey: from the rhythms of the 1930s to the modern fusion of jazz and electronics.
  • Piazza San Giovanni –What a GOSPEL NIGHT by the Cathedral!! The ‘Gospel Choirs’ of Musart will have their stage by the Cathedral of Florence. They will be deviding in three groups representing local and international contemporary gospel, The Pilgrims, the Academy Singers Choir and the Maryland Gospel Singers.
The very best of contemporary gospel!!
  • Piazza Santa Croce – Toscana Classica orchestra will be in charge of dances in Piazza Santa Croce with ‘Il Grande Ballo degli Orsi’, a tribute to maestro Sergio Staino. The orchestra and three Florence dance schools will play many types of music including Viennese waltzes, tangos, and polkas. Have fun!!
  • The Oltrarno disctrict
In Piazza del Carmine, Anfiteatro 2010 will celebrate the new year withThe Night of Desires’ a combination of music, entertainment and the tradition of sharing wishes.
Three marching bands will spread music in Piazza Santo Spirito and all through the Oltrarno with this ‘Oltrarno on the Road’ project by Music Pool. The bands will add a dynamic and spirited vibe to the celebration.
  • And last but not least Piazza della Signoria – The heart of New Year’s Eve will be Piazza della Signoria.
The area in front of Palazzo Vecchio, called the arengario (this is where from the Medieval time all city political events took place), will transform into a stage to feature the performances by Diodato, a well-known Italian singer-songwriter who has previously won the Sanremo Festival.Alongside him, Andrea Paris, a comedian and magician from Zelig, and Cecille, a singer who has performed with Andrea Bocelli and even at the White House, will also take the stage. The show will include performances by saxophonist Eleonora Fiorentini, pianist Xing Chang, and opera singers Gianpiero Delle Grazie, Antonio Mandrillo, and Martina Tragni—talented artsists from the Andrea Bocelli Foundation’s Masterclasses. This collaboration between Florence and the Foundation aims to highlight a shared commitment to empowering and promoting young people and talents by providing opportunities for visibility and collaboration.

This widespread initiative ensures that there’s something for every taste and preference as Florence welcomes the arrival of 2024 in style.
