Dan Brown’s latest book Inferno has all the plot elements his legions of fans have come to expect.

Set in the heart of Dante’s beloved Florence, Inferno pits series hero Langdon against a mad-scientist villain with evil intentions.

As the villain is a devote of Dante’s Inferno, it is Langdon’s ability to piece together the mysteries and symbolism in these texts that eventually bring him fact to face with one of the series most evil antagonists.

While there is no denying that Brown has obviously done his research, the book is classified as historical fiction for a reason. The book draws on the writing of Dante’s Inferno and follows that work’s three-part structure to advance the historical-mystery story.

Brown is, therefore, forced to not only interpret the clues hidden in the city’s famous architecture – a difficult task in and of itself – but also look for symbolism in the complex writings of one of Italy’s best-know exports.

The accuracy of this ‘interpretation’ is not always as close to the truth as readers would perhaps like. However this is not always such a bad thing. Brown fans can go on their own adventure in Florence and discover the real facts behind the fiction.
