Boboli is the most important and beautiful garden of Florence, and it’s one the finest examples of Italian garden. A place where natural and material elements are in harmony with their surroundings, the garden is at once a unique display of Italian architecture and a popular tourist destination. You could visit it with us joining our gardens tour!
The garden was originally an extension of the Pitti Palace courtyard but after Eleonora da Toledo (Cosimo I de Medici’s wife) initial decision to create an even bigger open-air space; the garden grew to become a sort of museum en plein air, containing wonderful sculptures coming from different ages and places.
Today, the Boboli Garden is spread over 45 thousand square meters and those who wish to visit it completely, will need to take their time! And believe it or not, the Boboli garden is also home to an artificial cavern ‘la grotta del Buontalenti’ and to a little island.
To put the Boboli’s beauty into words is near impossible if only for the sheer volume of famous artworks nestled among tree-lined walks, stunning fountains, statues, a majestic staircase dominating Pitti Palace and an amphitheater with an Egyptian obelisk. It’s a truly magical place, rich in history and with its own sense of beauty.
It’s also a place that you have to see to believe! With that in mind, you may find the following information helpful.
Included in the price of your tickets to the Boboli is the Bardini garden, which has a wonderful view on Florence, the Galleria del Costume, the Museo delle Porcellane and Museo degli Argenti. Queues can be long in the spring/summer tourist season, so we suggest buying your tickets beforehand.
Travel tip
If you come to Florence remember to reserve a day to visit the Boboli complex, even better if you join it to the visit at Pitti Palace. After all, you’ll probably need an entire day to see everything but it will be a pleasure for your eyes!
